    Description

This is a rare German M1871 original sawback bayonet and scabbard. The sawback has been removed/filed as this proved to be more efficient in battle. The maker's mark W.R. Kirshbaum Solingen can be seen on the blade. All of the stamps on the bayonet are deep and very clear.
The regiment stamp on the bayonet 17.R.R.16.4 shows it was for the 17th reserve infantry regiment, 16th company, bayonet no.4. This also shows that this regiment had 4 battalions and not the usual 3. They fought at the western front including famous battles such as the battle of Marne, Somme, and Arras. The inspection stamp on the back of the blade has the royal Prussian cypher, a crown over W 74 indicates it was under King Wilhelm in 1874.
The scabbard features an interesting unit marking L. Kat. 2. 168 which mean it was originally issued to Landsturm-Infanterie-Batallion Kattowitz, 2nd company weapon # 168. The Landsturm were regional defense units meant to stay and defend their area, in this case Kattowitz which is modern day Poland.
Take a look at the pics and let me know if I can answer any questions.
All of my relics are exactly as I collected them. I never alter, fix, or deep clean anything even if I have the parts. This is my way of preserving the story, but you may obviously do as you wish.
Add me as a seller if your interested in unique Militaria(what I'm allowed to list), coins, and other items as I will be selling a good amount of my collection.
