German m38 Luftschutz Gladiator helmet, Flak AAgun battery RL2 39/42 marked RARE

Description

German model 1938 Luftschutz helmet "Gladiator" type.
Very nice example of an original m38 "Gladiator" Luftschutz helmet.
These helmets, designed in 1938 and issued to Luftschutz, were manifactured in 4 different versions:
- 1°  3-piece helmet shell: main body, rear skirt, and front visor (welded together on the sides); 3 rivet attachment for the liner system
- 2°  2-piece helmet shell: main body and skirt/visor part; 3 rivets ( 4 rivets also exist) for the liner system
- 3° 1-piece helmet shell with 4 rivet attachments for the liner system
- 4° 1-piece helmet shell with 3 rivet attachments for the liner system
This one is a first type, with a 4-rivet configuration.
The shell has no cracks,or holes,or dings.
The original very dark blue finish,has been overwashed by a black layer at a given time, probably due to the fact that is was reissued to a Flak-member, a red line is painted around the base
The helmet rim is rolled inwards.
It has two "salt shaker" vents on each side of the shell
The skirt is slightly warped on the rear on the left side, pictures 6 and 7
On the rear of the skirt is some corrosion, but nothing really serious.
The liner is the early Luftschtz
liner, made out of tan leather and mounted on a fibre rim.
All the leather "fingers" are complete, leather is supple
The liner is attached to the shell by means of 4 rivets.
The size is ink stamped and reads 56 but could accomodate a size 57 (US size 7 1/4)
The chinstrap is made out of brown leather, with the early double sliding buckle system, in good condition.
The helmet shell is marked RL 39/42
RL denoting " Reichs Luftschutz"
the 39/28 code was attributed to the producer Gustav Rudolphe Stanz-Press-und Ziehwerk, located in Bernsbach , Saxony
