    Description

    My father-in-law acquired this item as a souvenir when he visited the New York World's Fair in 1939.  It has been in the family's possession since then and always in a dry, smoke-free home with no pets.  The perisphere has areas chipped away from both the top and bottom.  Writing on the front of the base has a few flaws.
    We have seen this item listed elsewhere as Bakelite, but we do not know if it is or isn't.
